Indian Summer

The latest roll of film from my Diana Mini - half turned out completely white... and half turned out super rockstar. So here's the good stuff; most of these pictures were taken at Devils Lake State Park, or at James Madison Park across from my apartment. I'll be uploading tons more throughout the rest of the summer - enjoiii

precisely.

Tyler Knott Gregson is an artist who uses black marker to blot out words from newspaper clippings in order to create poetry. He calls it blackout poetry - and this one is my thinking precisely!

The Dø - Bohemian Dances

I've been obsessed with this song for a bit now - so good, check out the lyrics.

I don't want nobody to tell me what I did wrong or right
I have grown in patience you keep lecturing me day and night
Now you have no other choice it's my turn to decide
This can old be done the same with just a little far.

Look at the sunrise, Look at the moonlight
You're not in a hurry, it isn't the time.
I know what's best now, believe me the best is never around if you're trying too hard.
Look at yourself boy, Look at yourself boy, Look at yourself boy
Whatever the price
As long as we're dancing bohemian dances
I know the answers are no longer far.

Totally freak out all over the place now.
As long as we're dancing we can't be mistaken
As long as we're dancing bohemian dances
I know the answers will pop in your heart.
Oh please don't try to make it worth this could ever become.
As long as we're dancing bohemian dances
I know the answers are no longer far.

I will doing my best boy, doing my best boy, doing my best boy,
Whatever the price
Doing my best boy, doing my best boy, doing my best boy
You might be surprise.
Doing my best boy, doing my best boy, doing my best boy,
Whatever the price

I don't want nobody to take me
For someone I am not
I'm just playing my own part
Don't blame me if i'm on the run.
Look at the sunrise, Look at the moonlight
You're not in a hurry, it isn't the time.
I know whats best now, believe me the best is never around if you're trying too hard.
Look at yourself boy, Look at yourself boy, Look at yourself boy
Whatever the price
As long as we're dancing bohemian dances
I know the answers are no longer far.

Look at yourself boy, Look at yourself boy, Look at yourself boy

Diana Mini, Winter Edition

I just discovered a roll of film i'd taken with my Diana Mini this last winter, so I finally got it developed! I'm really impressed with the way they turned out, usually the Mini gets a little finicky when the sun isn't out so this made me very happy! These are a few pics. of my dear Josie and myself taking a little field trip to the frozen lake Mendota.

Untitled - Birds

This is the project I've been working on for the past couple of weeks and I've finally finished it. After I read 'Family Ties' by Clarice Lispector, I became inspired to make a painting featuring the words that I blogged about earlier - "One must know, One must know. Life is so short, life is so short." I decided to take an ironic spin on the phrase, giving the birds in the painting the revenge they deserved. I explained it earlier today to a friend: "the cat's are doneski."
Acrylic and Ink on canvas. Roughly 2ftx4ft.

summer update

It’s been a crazy year but my spring semester has finally ended! *choir sings the hallelujah chorus*
This summer will be a blend of the following –
-camping at devils lake
-rollerblading
-shopping
-biking
-swimming
-flying kites
-blowing bubbles
-hiking/walking
-working at the cleaners
-boating
-grilling out
-taking a summer class at MATC (weather & climate…. Bummer)
And last but not least spending all my free time with my friends and fam. I felt the need to do a general update cause I feel it’s been awhile.

Besides my personal life, and in other artsy news – Death Cab for Cutie is coming out with a new CD May 31st! Codes and Keys is the title and I am super stoked. Here’s the website if there are any other die hard Gibbard fans out there, you can pre-order it just like I did. :) http://www.deathcabforcutie.com/

Secondly I’m working on a couple different paintings right now that I’ll be posting in another week or so. Stay tuned, and hope summer is starting up for everyone else as well.
Peace&Love

Clarice Lispector

I'm in the most brilliant Lit. class right now and we're reading this book called "Family Ties" by Clarice Lispector. She's a Brazilian Feminist who writes innovative novels and short stories and they're absolutely fantastic. It's like every single line is poetry with underlying meanings, and I can't get enough of it! Here's a bit from the last story i read - "Happy Birthday" that i found inspiring. I highly recommend everyone check it out.

"But no one could imagine what she was thinking. And for those near the door who gave her one final look, the old lady was only what she appeared to be: seated at the head of that messy table, with one hand clenched on the tablecloth as if holding a scepter, and with that silence which was her final word. with her clenched fist on the table, she would no longer be only what she thought. Her appearance had finally surpassed her and, overcoming it, she serenely grew in stature. Cordelia looked at her in terror. That fist, mute and severe on the table, was revealing something to the unhappy daughter-in-law who was helplessly loving her perhaps for the last time. One must know. One must know. Life is so short. Life is so short."

In The Beginning

I made this painting for my friend and youth pastor Lief Erickson.
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Roughly 1.5ftX4Ft

Baggage.

Last year I attended Simply Youth Conference with my church. Every night we heard great talks from different speakers, but one stuck out in my head more than the others. It was focused on a verse from 1st Samuel 10:22. My memory of the entire talk is extremely foggy now since it has been over a year since then. This painting was taken from the verse when God speaks and says "Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage." The talk was referencing being afraid of your past and hiding yourself among what's happened to you. (I apologize for the bad lighting in the pictures, it looks a lot more green than the camera made it out to be).
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas, roughly 2ftx3.

imaginary skylines.

I went through a stage last spring (2010) of drawing imaginary skylines. I'd draw them on everything -napkins, folders, assignments; this was my final skyline purge. Acrylic and oil pastels on canvas, roughly 4ftx3

Untitled - Abstract

This was my first real attempt at an abstract painting. I worked on this painting in the spring of 2010 and it's since then been hanging in the basement of the Regent Apartments on display for Blackhawck Churches College-Aged Ministries (CAM)- http://www.facebook.com/blackhawkcam.org
Acrylic on canvas, roughly 2ftx4.
